my year in review

Happy New Year's Eve, dear readers! Well, 2013 has been quite the year! As the clock ticks closer to midnight, I can't help but think about 2013. I must admit it wasn't as groundbreaking as 1992 when I realized that sweatsuits could be comfortable as well as fashionable. But it certainly had some highs, lows and everything in between. Here is a look back… (cue a blurry Power Point-like transition effect and melancholy tune!)

High: Finally found the perfect pair of black skinny jeans. Still on the search? The J.Crew toothpick jean is the way to go, my friend!

Low: Kicked the diet soda habit for a good 4 or 5 months, but quickly got back on the wagon during Christmastime. I blame the holiday packaging and commercials. I can't say no to polar bears, can you??

In-between: Changed my job…twice. This was a really good move in the long run. But man alive adjusting to two different workplaces after three years at another job was an emotional roller coster. So many different office kitchens to get used to. I finally understood how those girls who juggles a couple of beaus feel. And now I know what it's like to be one of those people who still uses the word "beau."

High: Discovered cupcakes at Molly's Cupcakes in the West Village. Yum times 10! I highly recommend Cake Batter and Cookie Monster.

Low: Became increasingly dependent on the dash in my writing. Now my writing is filled with natural - and unnatural - pauses.  Why, dash, why?!

In-between: Really discovered my inner jeweler - 2013 was all about baubles for me. Big earrings, sparkly headbands and pendants. However, this meant that I spent way too much time on BaubleBar.com scrolling their treasure trove of gems.

High: Launched a book club and read some pretty great books like The Book Thief.

Low: Fell asleep during The Book Thief (they should rename that movie to The Fun Thief hehee).

In-between: Still have not finished Atonement. But this freed up my time so I could read product descriptions on BaubleBar.com.

High: I turned 30 and didn't freak out too bad!

Low: I turned 30 and only accomplished about 8% of what I intended to when I pictured my life as a young pup. For one thing, I don't have the fabulous perm I always imagined I'd have when I entered womanhood!

In-between: I turned 30 and still have no idea what's going to happen in the future. That's both completely scary (will my eyebrows merge again like they did when I was 9??) and exciting (will I finally meet a fella that prefers a formerly one-eybrowed gal?) I think!

Well, looking ahead to 2014! Here's to a great year!!
